Guy Lewis set up a consultancy company in 2004, advising production teams, independent companies and large scale broadcasters on how best to deploy new technology and how to achieve the dividends offered by new technology and workflows. Guy has spent over 20 years in the television industry gaining a wide and in depth knowledge of television production methods and the technology which surrounds it, also receiving during that time an RTS award for the Best Use of Modern Technology.

Prior to this, Guy was Head of Production Technology for the whole of Granada Production encompassing Bristol, Leeds, London, Manchester and Norwich. He was responsible for developing a technology template to be used across Granada, consistent with technology trends, best operational practice and Granada’s commercial objectives.

In this role, Guy worked closely with all of Granada’s site General Managers and relevant genre Programme Heads of department advising on future technologies, media workflow and providing suitable technical solutions for programming needs.

Guy was Head of Technical Operations for Granada Television in Manchester, taking overall technical responsibility for all news, regional and network programming from the Manchester and Liverpool sites, alongside the daytime lifestyle programme ‘This Morning’ based out of  the London Studios. Along with department line management, Guy was responsible for developing and initiating technology strategies which would deliver real commercial benefits to the Manchester based businesses which included production teams working on Coronation Street, Tonight with Trevor McDonald as well as countless other award winning drama, factual and entertainment shows.

In 2001 Guy was the main technologist involved in the integration of Granada Television and BBC facilities in Manchester which was to become a joint venture called 3sixtymedia.  Heavily involved in the understanding, specification and delivery of bespoke facilities to suit different styles of production and technical standards, he delivered a complete suite of studio, video and audio post together with complimenting technical resources to satisfy the relevant production teams’ requirements. The driving figure in adopting complimentary technologies across IT and traditional broadcast technology, Guy instigated the adoption of server based technology into many aspects of the production chain where the technology benefits could be felt. These include a server based audio post production facility, tapeless delivery of post and graphics to studio and the effective adoption of interactive TV for SMS and email, non-linear workflow into telecine rushes transfer and audio sync through to the final finishing stages of colour correction and clean-up.  Within this period, he was also the prime mover in expanding the technical facilities required for increasing production requirements of Coronation Street.  Working directly with the Head of Production, he developed new methods of working and formulated a technical and production strategy for the continued successful future of the programme.
